Michael Butler is the chairman and owner of Midlan International, a Florida-based consultancy that works with all aspects of the resort real estate industry, including whole ownership, fractional ownership and timeshares. His clients include developers, hospitality companies, banks and financial institutions, and manufacturers.
Mr. Butler started his career in the book division of Time Life, Inc. He then worked as the London vice president for CBS Records before moving to CBS corporate headquarters, where he served as director of profit evaluation.
He started Midlan International in 1979 and has led the company to more than $500 million in sales. He is a frequent author and speaker on resort marketing topics.
Condo-hotels have always had a spotty record in the U.S. The crash in real estate values beginning in 2008 severely affected the concept and prices fell from 50 to 60 percent and sales dwindled to almost zero.
