Byron Allen, the comedian and talk-show host, bought a home in the Hollywood Hills for his mom, but she had other ideas: She wanted to live in a gated community, where she perceived she would have more security.

So Allen listed the midcentury modern he had purchased, and after more than two years of being on the market and three years of being vacant, the house has sold for $6.25 million.

The remodeled house has four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms in 3,562 square feet. The one-story home, with walls of glass, has views of downtown L.A., Century City and the ocean. There is also a pool.

Allen, 48, hosts "Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen," which premiered in 2006, and he produces a number of other TV shows, such as "Beautiful Homes & Great Estates."

The listing agents were Jeb O'Reilly and Nancie Richards of Keller Williams Realty, Beverly Hills.

Previous owners include producer David E. Kelley and actress Michelle Pfeiffer as well as actress Melanie Griffith and actor Antonio Banderas.

The house was one of the first built in Brentwood, and now it is listed at $6.9 million. The Spanish-style, 1920 home has four bedrooms and three bathrooms in 4,000 square feet.

McDermott and Rose are divorced, with finalization at the beginning of this year.

McDermott, 47, is known for his role in "The Practice." Rose, 40, has appeared in "CSI, Las Vegas," and "CSI, Miami."

Mary Lu Tuthill and Kathleen Tuthill share the listing at Coldwell Banker, Brentwood Court.

NFL quarterback Carson Palmer has sold his Laguna Beach home for $2,365,000.

The hillside house has four bedrooms and five bathrooms in 4,380 square feet. The house has ocean, Catalina Island and city views. The master suite occupies an entire floor.

Palmer, 29, was the 2002 Heisman Trophy winner as a senior at USC. Now with the Bengals as quarterback, he was sidelined for 12 games last season while his throwing elbow healed.

Andrew Karigan, Prudential California Realty, Newport Beach, represented both sides of the deal.

Fashion photographer David LaChapelle has listed his 1920 Spanish-style home at $1.65 million.

The house, in the Sunset Strip area, has three bedrooms and two bathrooms in 1,912 square feet.

The kitchen is remodeled, and there is a blue-tile pool and spa. The Chateau Marmont is within view.

LaChapelle, 46, has published several books, and his celebrity portraits have sold for as much as $50,000 each. He also has directed videos and documentaries.

Barry Peele of Sotheby's International Realty, Beverly Hills, has the listing.

Producer Jon Peters says he will now agree to take $19.95 million for his three, partly developed and adjoining vacant lots in Beverly Hills. That is about half as much as Peters would take for the lots in 2008.

The former studio chief, who also owns a ranch in Santa Barbara, produced "Superman Returns."

Jeffrey Hyland and Brooke Kaufman of Hilton & Hyland/Christie's Great Estates have the listing.
