A new island resort in the Maldives by an accomplished hotel operator with the rare opportunity of property for sale has been unveiled this month.

Hotel investment volumes in Asia totaled $7.5 billion at the end of 2013, increasing a staggering 218 percent from the previous year.

Sonu Shivdasani is the founder and CEO of Soneva Resorts, an international resort brand he set up with his wife Eva in 1995. They were the first hoteliers to bring five-star luxury to the Maldives and the first company to offer homes for sale there.

Denver-based luxury destination club Inspirato has announced the addition of three new properties in the Maldives and two new properties in Thailand to their global vacation portfolio, representing the club's entrance into Asia.

According to London-based STR Global, there was new hotel supply growth in May 2012 of 3.2-percent increase in the Maldives and 1.7-percent increase in Mauritius. During the same period, demand growth has continued to grow in Mauritius but declined in the Maldives.
