Kate Walsh Lists Prime $4,295,000 Los Feliz Estate Home

(LOS ANGELES, CA) -- She may only play a doctor on television, but actress Kate Walsh apparently knows good bones when she sees them.

The Spanish-style gated estate in Los Feliz, California that she has listed at $4,295,000 retains its original 1929 details, such as an intricately tiled main hall and staircase, arched windows and passageways, and stenciled beamed ceilings. Oversized living and formal dining rooms, a breakfast room, a den-media room, a wine room, five fireplaces and four en suite bedrooms are part of nearly 6,000 square feet in the two-story main house. The home has been updated to include a combined kitchen-family room, two walk-in closets in the master bedroom and an upstairs laundry.

The one-third-acre grounds have a swimming pool with spa, a pool house with a bathroom, an outdoor fireplace, an outdoor cooking center, an al fresco dining area and a circular driveway. The porte-cochere was used for parking, and the garage was converted into a gym and office.

Walsh, 42, stars as Dr. Addison Montgomery on "Private Practice" (2007-present), a spinoff of "Grey's Anatomy," on which she played the same character from 2005. She will costar in the upcoming indie film "Waska."

The house was purchased in 2007 for $4.75 million.

Cocktails in Beverly Hills

Actress Patricia Barry has listed her two-story home in the flats of Beverly Hills at $5.23 million.

The Monterey-style house was built on a lot purchased in 1927 by Charlie Chaplin and his soon-to-be-ex-wife Lita Grey Chaplin. Lita Chaplin engaged architect Roy Seldon Price to build the residence and set designer Harold Grieve to do the interiors. She owned the home until 1939.

The traditional house has large public rooms, a bar, eight bedrooms -- including two staff quarters and a chauffeur's quarters -- seven bathrooms, three powder rooms, three fireplaces and about 6,500 square feet of living space. The master bedroom overlooks the swimming pool. The spreading limbs of a mature pepper tree shade the brick patio on the double lot of 16,300 square feet.

Barry, who bought in 1959, opens her home every year to launch the Palm Springs International Film Festival with a large cocktail party and has frequently used it for entertaining. She once invited former owner Lita Chaplin for a dinner party. "She was the femme fatale sitting at one end of the table," Barry said.

Although she likes the home's central location, Barry said she is selling because the place no longer meets her needs. "It's a very big house," she said, "with lots of stairs."

She owns other homes in Brentwood, Encino and Winterset, Iowa. "I was taught to never pay rent," Barry said. "You buy."

The actress has a family farm in Winterset that was used in the 1995 film "The Bridges of Madison County."

Barry, 88, has more than five decades of film and TV credits. She starred in "Blazing Across the Pecos" (1948) and has appeared on "All My Children" (1980-81), "Murder She Wrote" (1989 and 1994) and scores of other shows and movies. She is a past president of the Women in Film.

Barry, the widow of producer Philip Barry Jr., who is the son of playwright Philip Barry, recalled her husband using the petite salon at one end of the living room for meetings with his writers. He also would conduct business at the bar at the other end of the room.

Hustling Out of Sherman Oaks

Oscar-winning rapper Juicy J has sold his Sherman Oaks, Calif., house for $1.82 million, the MLS shows.

The Tuscan-style home, built in 1955 but entirely remodeled, has a two-story entry; a family room with a wet bar and stone fireplace; a kitchen with stainless-steel appliances and an island; a master bedroom suite with a balcony and sitting area; a master bathroom with a fireplace, spa tub and steam shower; and maid's quarters. With six bedrooms and six bathrooms, the home is 5,849 square feet. Outdoor space includes a pool with spa and an open-air kitchen.

The record producer and co-founder of the hip-hop group Three 6 Mafia won an Academy Award with DJ Paul and Crunchy Black in 2006 for the original song "It's Hard Out There for a Pimp." It was featured in the 2005 film "Hustle & Flow," in which Juicy J also had an acting part.

More recently he has written music for "WWE SmackDown vs. Raw" videogames (2007-09) and the TV show "Numb3rs" (2008).

Juicy J, 35, bought the canyon-view house in 2007 for $2 million, according to public records, and had a buyer within two weeks of putting it on the market.

Caitlin Silver of Prudential California Realty, Sherman Oaks, had the listing. Therese Hyde of Coldwell Banker, Studio City, represented the buyer.

'MASH' Writer's House is a Hit

The Beverly Hills home of the late "MASH" writer Larry Gelbart came on the market for the first time in 40 years in February and sold last month for more than its asking price of $7,999,000.

The traditional house sits on three-quarters of an acre and has one of the largest lots in the flats of Beverly Hills. The compound includes a swimming pool with waterfall, a tennis court and a greenhouse. The main house and two guesthouses contain a total of seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms.

Gelbart, who died last year at 81, wrote for TV series, including "MASH" (1972-83) and "Your Show of Shows" (1950-54). He was also a producer and a director as well as a co-writer of the Broadway show "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum." Gelbart and his wife, Pat, raised their five children in the home.

The property drew multiple offers the first week it was on the market, reported real estate agent Susan Smith.

Linebacker's Encino Score

Arizona Cardinal Monty Beisel has listed his Encino, Calif., contemporary at $2,495,000.

The NFL linebacker completely remodeled the 1962 home, emphasizing clean lines and adding Asian-inspired accents. He painted most of the artwork on the walls. A long, low, glass-fronted fireplace adds drama to the living room, and an oversized island provides prep, cooking and seating space for four in the open kitchen. There are four bedrooms, 2 1/2 bathrooms and 3,797 square feet of living space in two stories. Outside, a pool is surrounded by seating areas, including an outdoor living room.

Beisel, 31, played in Super Bowl XLIII with the Cardinals in 2008 and has played for the Kansas City Chiefs and the New England Patriots.

He bought the property in 2006 for $1,615,000, according to public records.
