(ABU DHABI, U.A.E.) -- On November 1, Abu Dhabi's first grand prix takes place at the brand new Yas Marina track on Yas Island outside the city. As title sponsor, Etihad Airways is adding the Formula 1 logo to its airplanes to promote the event wherever the flights touch down.

Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways' chief commercial officer, said, "by undertaking these promotional and branding opportunities it not only increases the international awareness of the race, and Etihad's title sponsorship of it, but it also places our home base of Abu Dhabi at the forefront of people's thinking as one of the world's rising sporting capitals."

The airline has also painted two of its aircraft, an Airbus A320 and A340, with special F1 livery.

The specially painted planes are part of a marketing campaign to promote the last race of the F1 season in Abu Dhabi. Etihad has signed on for three years.

Tickets are already on sale and available at Etihad Airways offices. Sales were enhanced last week when Etihad showed its branded Formula 1 racing car at a mall in Dubai.

The car will appear at malls in other UAE cities as well.

Baumgartner said, "as well as visitors from across the world flying into Abu Dhabi for the inaugural Formula 1™ Etihad Airways Grand Prix, we are also looking forward to welcoming thousands of UAE residents to the capital for this historic occasion."
