First Corporate Jet Airport in Middle East Opens

(ABU DHABI, UAE) - The new City Airport, Abu Dhabi is the first private jet airport in the Middle East and North Africa. Situated at the former Al Bateen Airbase, City Airport is five kilometers from the central business district and not more than 15 minutes from anywhere on Abu Dhabi island.

The new airport is a boutique operation designed to attract the world's richest movers and shakers. It includes a comprehensive business jet facility, VIP and main passenger terminals, 24 hour access, airport services, maintenance, repair and overhaul, fuel, handling and all other fixed-base operational services.

ADAC Chairman Khalifa bin Mazrouei said, "Our plans for City Airport, Abu Dhabi will put it firmly at the centre of the incredible growth of business aviation services in the region."

Those plans involve investing more than $54 AED million to develop the airport. Stand capacity will grow from 50 to 120 spaces, with specific areas for maintenance of different sized aircraft.  The Instrument Landing System (ILS) will be upgraded and the latest Global Positioning System technology will be installed.

Charter flights out of Abu Dhabi airport have increased by 46 percent each year since 2004, and more than two dozen new firms have applied for licenses to fly out of the UAE. The private jet market in the Middle East is expanding faster than anywhere else in the world.

Mohammed Al Bulooki, Vice President of Airline Marketing and Aeronautical Revenue at ADAC, said, "Individuals who fly private jets are decision makers who value their time and therefore the convenience offered by using private jets. At ADAC, we have now made sure those clients with their own jets will now also have their own airport."
