(DUBAI, UAE) -- Projects with outstanding creative design, performance, sustainability, and vision from emerging markets in the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, and Asia are competing for top honors at the first Cityscape  Awards for Architecture in Emerging Markets.

A distinguished panel of industry experts will announce the winners during a gala dinner at the Grand Hyatt, Dubai on October 5. The Cityscape Awards for Architecture in Emerging Markets are being held during the 9th annual Cityscape Global conference and exhibition from October 4-7 at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre.

"Emerging markets are providing much of the dynamism in the global real estate markets at the moment. Economic sentiment is more bullish than in the more mature Western markets, and it is against that backdrop of confidence and optimism that we will celebrate excellence in architectural design," said Chris Speller, Group Director for Cityscape.

Entries will be judged separately for built or completed projects and future projects, across the commercial / mixed use, community (including religious and public buildings), leisure, residential, and tourism, travel, and transport sectors.

Six special categories include:

  • The Young Architect Award, open to students of architecture, landscape, urban design, interior design, or other design related programs.
  • The Environmental Award - to the one built scheme that delivers best on environmental issues.
  • The Islamic Architecture Award - for the project which shows particular empathy and understanding for Islamic culture and context.
  • The Master Planning Award - for the best master planned community.
  • The Cultural Heritage Award - for the scheme that best preserves the intangible attributes that are inherited from past generations, maintained in the present, and bestowed for future generations.
  • The Industry Choice Award - the most popular project voted by visitors to Cityscape Global.

The deadline for submission is August 15. The top 10 entries selected by the judges will be displayed at the Awards Gallery during the Cityscape Global Exhibition. The Cityscape Global Awards are sponsored by Gaggenau, Boomerang Lab 23, and AGC.

Entries will be accepted from Gulf States, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Asia (excluding Japan, New Zealand and Australia). Entrants must obtain the owner / client's permission before submitting entries.
