(Greensboro, GA) - Famed golf course architect Pete Dye, whose courses are perennially ranked among the top courses in America, has been tapped to do the newest golf course at Reynolds Plantation here on Lake Oconee. The addition of a Dye-designed course now gives this luxury resort-style community its sixth layout designed by a big-name architect.

The other courses already open at Reynolds Plantation feature the work of Bob Cupp, Jack Nicklaus, Tom Fazio, Rees Jones and Jim Engh.

Dye, who will be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in November, will design his Reynolds Plantation property as a walking course. He is enthusiastic about the piece of land he's been given at the Lake Oconee golf course community.

"It's a great piece of ground," said Dye, 82. "It's got great vegetation, the lake is beautiful, so you just try to do your very best. The site has marvelous tree coverage and water - all the aspects to make a good golf course. You've got good topography. It's got movement, but nothing harsh enough where you can't walk."

The Reynolds family continues to invest in amenities for its communities and engaged Dye for the 6th course at Reynolds Plantation because of Dye's reputation for innovation.

"Bringing Pete Dye here as the next architect really makes a terrific statement about this golfing community," said Reynolds Plantation CEO/Chairman Mercer Reynolds. "Pete is an icon in the industry, someone who brings high quality golf wherever he goes and someone who has a passion for the game. I think what we will see from Pete's involvement is a strengthened level of commitment to golf here at Reynolds Plantation and we are all thrilled to have him on board."

Dye has mentored or worked with many of the architects with courses at Reynolds, although that won't stop him from trying to create his own signature course at the golf and lake community.

"It's good to work with and have four or five different types of golf courses, because golfers go all over to play different types of golf courses," Dye said. "It's a lot of fun to be competitive like that."

Site work has begun on the new private golf course which will be located just northeast of the member-only Creek Club that was designed by Engh. Homesites at the new Dye course will be available at a later date.

Reynolds Plantation is a Linger Longer Community located between Atlanta and Augusta, Ga., featuring  more than 80 miles of shoreline on Lake Oconee.  In addition to the 99 holes of championship, Reynolds Plantation is also home to the Ritz-Carlton Lodge, a 251-room lakefront resort and spa, The Reynolds Golf Academy and TaylorMade Performance Lab, three full-service marinas and other amenities.
